Mastery Circle does not currently have a chairperson/people to run it. Therefore the program is discontinued until someone volunteers to lead it. (8/30/2010) This is an exciting program that will challenge and provide opportunities for our students to go above and beyond the regular classroom learning. Students can explore and commit to memory facts in the areas of Social Studies, Science, Math, and Language Arts. The program was originally created by a teacher in Oregon, Mrs. Heather Renz (http://www.mrsrenz.net/masteryclub.htm). We have taken the program, with her permission, and adjusted it to fit our needs. The goal of each student is to become a Member of the Mastery Circle, which means they have memorized 25 facts from the Mastery Circle Fact List and recited them at school. Students can continue on after that and reach milestones of 50, 75 and even 100! A Mastery Circle Information Sheet has been created to more fully explain the program. Every other Friday, students will be given a Mastery Pass before lunch/recess if they have Mastery Facts ready to recite. We look forward to seeing students begin their journey to becoming Mastery Circle Members! Volunteers are needed to staff the Mastery Circle areas at each school. This will entail listening to students recite their facts. A computer with internet access will be provided so the volunteers can go to the web site links to ensure students are giving the correct answers. If you are interested in volunteering every other Friday during lunch/recess, please email Mindy Mark at mmark@aegisgroup.com (2009-2010 Mastery Circle Chairperson) or sign up on the PTA Volunteer Form. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to be involved with not only their own children but their children’s peers as well. We look forward to an exciting year!
